Georgios Arabatzis
Ontology and Gender in Film Philosophy
George Arabatzis is a philosophy professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He has a PhD in philosophy from the École de Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, where he was a scholarship holder of the French government. He also did a post-doctoral research at the University of Torino in Italy, with a grant from the Italian government. From 1998 to 2012, he was a researcher at the Research Centre on Greek Philosophy of the Academy of Athens.
He has been a visiting scholar and research fellow at several universities around the world, such as Princeton, Texas at Austin, Helsinki, Charles in Prague, and Jassy in Romania. He has taught philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Open University, and the École de Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales.
His research interests include Byzantine philosophy, its ancient sources and its modern perception, commentators of Aristotle, Neoplatonism, Hellenistic philosophy, Stoicism, philosophical iconology, and aesthetics. He has published several books and articles on these and similar topics, most recently, Anti-humanisme et discours institutionnel à Byzance (2021). He has also edited more than a dozen books, including Studies on Supernaturalism (2009), The Problem of Modern Greek Identity (2016), and Modernity and Contemporaneity (2022).
